FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Where are VAU products made?
All products are made in-house, in our own workshop in Zagreb, Croatia (EU). This enables us to oversee the entire production process and take care of each single detail.
What metals are VAU products made of?
The ABACUS is made from brass and stainless steel, the PHI coaster from brass and the SUNRAY pencil holder from aluminium. All other VAU products are made from ZAMAC which stands for Zinc, Aluminium, MAgnesium and Copper. Its base metal is zinc and the alloying elements are aluminium, magnesium and copper. ZAMAC has exceptional strength and durability and works very well with multiple plating and finishing options.
In practice, this means we can craft beautifully-finished objects which are also hard-wearing and feel reassuringly solid despite their refined finish. To name a few examples, the two finishing options of the TRIANGLE botter are “aged brass“ and “satin silver“. This means the raw material is ZAMAC and then there goes a final metal layer ontop of the product. There is a substantial amount of manual work, e.g. polishing, involved when making VAU products.
How do I take care of VAU products?
All VAU products are made from solid metal, with hand-finished details. For a long lasting effect wipe the product with a dry or slightly wet soft cloth. Avoid acidic or abrasive detergents, as use of these products can damage the finish. Do not soak in water. Surface finish color may slightly change over time because of the nature of the material.
What is your take on sustainability?
We choose to stand for long-lasting and not trendy objects. One of our tenets is “simple life, fewer possessions“. We believe too many products are being thrown away far too early, hence putting unnecessary pressure on the ecosystem we all depend on. But actions speak louder than words.
Our workshop is therefore both ISO 9001: 2008 (quality) and ISO 14001: 2004 (environmental protection) certified. In addition, we regularly undergo a 4 pillar audit by two of the leading global supplier sustainability rating organisations, EcoVadis, France, and Sedex, UK. The 4 pillars relate to human rights/labour practices, environmental protection, sustainable procurement and fair business practices.
How do I know if an item is in stock?
We rarely keep any stock because we believe in small batch production that assures a product is not made until there is a concrete need for it. It won't take us more than 2 to 5 working days to prepare your order. Since we ship via DHL Express, the delivery itself lasts only 1 to 3 additional working days. If you need us to be quicker, email firstname.lastname@example.org or dial +385 1 655 39 52, and we'll look into options.
How do I make a return or exchange?
We hope you’ll love your VAU products. But if for any reason you’re not entirely satisfied, it’s super simple to return them with our 30 day returns policy. Within 30 days of receiving your VAU products, send back the item that you wish to return and we’ll replace them or refund the amount you paid us. Items bought online are returned to our workshop in Zagreb, Croatia (EU) at your own expense, unless damaged, and should be unused and returned in their original packaging. Before sending the product back, we kindly ask you to send us an email: email@example.com.
What Packaging Will My Order Be Delivered In?
We'll place your product inside a handcrafted, black cardboard box. The lid carries a non-intrusive VAU logo. Around the box you'll find a paper sleeve which shows a product picture and certain copy, like the country of origin and the material it is made from. Depending on the volume and weight of your purchase, we'll either use a brown bubble-wrapped envelope or transportation carton to protect the products during delivery.
What about shipping and delivery?
All our deliveries are being made by DHL Express which has proven to be a very safe and swift option. Each VAU product is being shipped from our own workshop in Zagreb, Croatia (EU). Since each VAU product is made to order, we’ll be able to ship your product(s) within 2 to 5 working days after you’ve placed your order. The day we dispatch your parcel you’ll receive a confirmation e-mail with a DHL tracking number.
Depending on your location, the delivery itself will take between 1 and 3 working days. This means the expected overall time, from the day you’ve placed your order to receiving it, is 3 to 8 working days. If there’s a specific date by which you need to receive your product and want to check if we can make it happen, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. We’ll be happy to respond and let you know what we can do. If your delivery address is outside of the EU please note these may be subject to local customs duties and taxes.
